POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The L.I.T. (Leaders in Training) Coordinator is a supervisory position that directs and coordinates teen volunteers. The L.I.T. Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling, recruiting, and directing young volunteers within a summer day camp structure. The L.I.T. Coordinator will support the leadership and growth development of 13-17 year-old Leaders in Training. The L.I.T. Coordinator is a member of the Day Camp Program Team at Heritage Park Temple and Southlands Community Church, reporting to Heritage Park Temple Corps Officer.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Program:
Build relationships with L.I.T participants at Heritage Park Temple and Southlands Community Church. 6-8 L.I.T. participants at each site.
Support the L.I.T. participants to develop one leadership development goal for the summer.
Collaborate with Day Camp Program Coordinator to support L.I.T participant engagement in Day Camp daily operations as junior leaders. For example: building daily L.I.T. participant schedules, assigning tasks.
Ensures adequate training and development opportunities for the L.T.T participants with the goal of developing a strong, united team.
Plans and implements weekly L.I.T. team building opportunities for L.I.T. program volunteers, which may include guest speakers. This weekly activity will bring L.I.T participants from both HPT and Southlands together, to support the development and strengthening of relationships between the youth at both churches.
Works alongside Day Camp Coordinator with planning and implementation of Heritage Park Temple and Southlands Day Camp Program.
Works closely with Day Camp staff members.
Interacts broadly with congregational members, community partners, and neighborhood families.
Works in cooperation and consultation with the church’s custodial, administrative, and pastoral care staff.
Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with other staff, volunteers and program attendees and their families as appropriate.
Keeps all information confidential relative to the teens and their families as well as children and families involved in the day camp program.
Works in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires travel between two camp sites: Heritage Park Temple and Southlands Community Church will be reimbursed at the TSA standard rate.
The work environment is typically at the Church. It includes indoor and outdoor settings with the possibility of going off-site to local parks or playgrounds within walking distance.
Generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:
o Dealing with angry/upset youth and parents as well as Verbal Abuse
o May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illness due to:
o Physical attacks by others
o Exposure to infectious diseases
o Moving objects
o Risk of sport liberated injuries.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Holds a High School Diploma.
Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
Experience in leading or working with youth and with youth programs in a church setting.
Must have a valid Police Check with vulnerable sector screening
Must have valid First Aid/CPR certificate or willingness to receive training.
Willing to take TSA Armatus online training.
Skills and Capabilities:

Maintain focus on the L.I.T.s and program operations daily.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $16.00 to $18.08 with a maximum of $21.69.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
