Job Description
We are seeking a licensed Electrical Design Engineer with strong design expertise and project management experience to lead federal infrastructure, water/wastewater and industrial projects. This role blends hands-on engineering with leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who thrives in both technical and client-facing environments.
The position is hybrid and can be based in Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Irvine, CA; Concord, CA; Carlsbad, CA; or Phoenix, AZ.
This position will support federal project work for clients that require U.S. Citizenship.
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer 6, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead the design of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, including substations, switchgear, and standby generation systems.
- Perform electrical calculations and power system analyses using SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar software.
- Design lighting, controls, and related low-voltage systems.
- Develop electrical plans, specifications, and cost estimates for complex federal, water/wastewater, industrial, and transportation projects.
- Conduct site investigations and coordinate with clients, utilities, code officials, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Review shop drawings, respond to construction-related inquiries, and provide construction-phase support.
- Ensure designs comply with the NEC, NFPA 820, and other applicable codes and standards.
- Define project scope, objectives, schedules, budgets, staffing, and procurement requirements.
- Monitor project risks, implement mitigation strategies, and apply lessons learned to improve project delivery.
- Manage client billing and subcontractor and vendor payments while supporting project profitability.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide performance feedback to junior engineers and project staff.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and high-quality project execution.
- Identify opportunities for change orders, expanded services, and repeat business.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer license.
- 10 years of related electrical engineering experience.
- Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required depending on project needs, workload, and business demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing medium- and low-voltage electrical systems for water, wastewater, industrial, federal, or transit facilities.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary design projects from planning through construction.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, UFC, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Hands-on experience performing power system studies using SKM Power Tools and/or ETAP.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, staffing, client relationships, and financial performance.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and project management practices.
- Proficiency with power system analysis software such as SKM Power Tools or ETAP.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and financial performance.
