Job Summary: Responsible for managing and growing the Makita sales revenue within defined Industrial Accounts with emphasis on assigned business segments through the proper execution of Makita’s strategic initiatives and sales programs. This role is focused on Industrial accounts, particularly Home Depot business segments and large key end-user companies. This will be done while promoting Makita’s “Best-In-Class Engineering & Innovation” brand position and the extensive Makita product line.
Salary: $100,00.00 - $115,000.00 Yearly
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Compile lists of prospective/target customers (Distribution/End-Users) for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories and publications, industry ads, trade shows, Internet websites, and other prospecting sources, including job site surveillance.
- Travel throughout the assigned business segment to conduct Makita business, including occasional travel for corporate meetings, support of Sales, National needs, and trade/customer shows.
- Display and demonstrate Makita products, including performing Makita product knowledge sessions for customers and other audiences.
- Provide expertise and support regarding pricing, quoting, credit terms, MAP Policy, orders, and many other sales support functions.
- Perform business reporting functions, such as sales reports, account update reports, monthly reports, weekly call reports, expense reports, mileage reports, and other reports as needed.
- Present, execute, and administer Corporate Sales Programs, including rebates, strategic initiatives, and promotions, along with other corporate programs as needed, such as Strategic Alliance Agreements with large end-user partners.
- Provide input to the Marketing Department and properly utilize and distribute the Makita marketing department collateral materials, including, but not limited to, catalogs, lectures, brochures, campaigns, and Point of Purchase materials, including Grainger “Hot Buys” and other promotions.
- Coordinate, schedule, and execute customer support events, including product training, product demonstration, national contractor training, shows and events, and joint sales calls.
- Create and execute strategic sales growth plans and proposals for key accounts and assigned business segments as needed (i.e., monthly, quarterly, or annually).
- Develop and continually strengthen professional relationships within all entities, internal and external, involved in our business, including key decision makers within all National Industrial accounts, your assigned business segments, and appropriate end-user key contacts and decision-makers.
- Utilize all aspects and resources provided by the organization, particularly the Makita Training Dept. Service Dept. Marketing Dept., etc.
- Investigates and resolves customer issues and concerns.
- Stay abreast of market conditions, changes, and competitor activities within the industry and markets and communicate findings internally.
- Be cognizant of other Makita divisions such as manufacturing and assembly, National Res-com channel, government/GSA, Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE), and Big-Box retail, including all other divisions.
- Understand and execute a solutions-based sales approach.
- Develop strategic plans to win and grow business through segment development and large end-user conversions.
- Be strategic in all business activities and work toward “Big Picture Results.” Work to own something within the assigned business segments.
- Bring 30 (two full classes, 15 each) qualified end users and sellers to our national training centers annually.
- Set, manage, and maintain displays as needed within all Industrial account locations.
- Support Makita National Accounts Schedule account meetings, Sales update meetings, and any other meetings as required. Meetings must be conducted in a professional manner that includes written agendas, PowerPoint presentations, sales figures, etc.
- Maintain and control Makita’s assets and their records, such as vehicles, demo tools, marketing materials, product samples, etc.
- Perform all company functions per federal, state, and municipal laws and per company policies.

Travel:
The role requires regular travel aligned to account needs, including local and regional driving. Overnight travel is expected periodically, depending on account size and geographic coverage. Occasional regional and national air travel is required for executive meetings, planning sessions, and company events.

- Organizational sales skills in the above areas, including formal presentations to distributors.
- Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Possess a “Do Whatever it Takes” attitude to get the job done.
- Bilingual is a plus. (Spanish preferred)

- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and products weighing up to approximately 50-75 pounds, including items such as lawn mowers, breaker hammers, and display materials
- Ability to safely operate and demonstrate power tools, including saws, drills, breaker hammers, and other handheld equipment
- Ability to transport tools, displays, and merchandising materials into and out of vehicles, customer facilities, and jobsite environments
- Ability to walk extended distances through large industrial and construction jobsites while carrying tools or equipment
- Ability to navigate stairs, ramps, elevators, ladders, and uneven or outdoor terrain commonly found on jobsites
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and use repetitive hand and arm motions during demonstrations, setup, and merchandising activities
- Ability to drive for extended periods of time, including local and regional travel
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations, and typical jobsite conditions
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and protective footwear
Education, Skills, and Experience Needed:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a 4-year college or university; or 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of Territory Management
- Background in industrial sales
- Knowledge of the power tool industry and/or all phases of construction
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
