Director of Software Engineering

Teletrac Navman is looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead and evolve our software and mobile engineering capability across core and customer‑facing platforms. This is a hands‑on, high‑accountability leadership role for someone who thrives in complex environments and is ready to take end‑to‑end ownership of engineering outcomes, not just team coordination.

The Opportunity

As Director of Software Engineering, you will own the performance, reliability, and delivery of multiple engineering teams working across our core platform and mobile products. You will partner closely with Product, the PMO, and senior stakeholders to translate strategy into execution, while modernising sustainment and embedding AI‑enabled engineering practices.

This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, technical strategy, and operational excellence. Success will be measured by delivery predictability, customer experience, system quality, and the strength of the engineering organisation you build.

What You’ll Be Accountable For

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

• Full ownership of end‑to‑end software delivery, reliability, and engineering execution
• Translating company and product strategy into measurable engineering outcomes
• Establishing strong operating rhythms, standards, and accountability across teams
• Acting as the escalation point for complex delivery and technical challenges

Sustainment & Customer Impact

• Ownership of customer support ticket (SPT) lifecycle, backlog health, and SLAs
• Reducing recurring issues through root‑cause analysis and systemic fixes
• Driving high‑quality outcomes across frontend, services, and mobile platforms

Backlog, Change & Execution Management

• Leadership of SPT and Change Request intake, prioritisation, and delivery
• Partnering with Product to ensure clarity of requirements and acceptance criteria
• Overseeing release planning, risk mitigation, and multi‑workstream delivery

Projects & Cross‑Functional Execution

• Engineering ownership of major projects from inception to delivery
• Providing credible effort estimates, delivery plans, and risk management
• Coordinating work across firmware, data, reporting, and platform teams

AI & Engineering Innovation

• Introducing AI‑driven capabilities to improve productivity, quality, and support operations
• Driving adoption of AI‑assisted development tools and workflows
• Partnering with Product and Data teams to embed intelligent features where appropriate

People Leadership

• Leading and developing engineering managers and senior engineers
• Building a high‑performing, scalable organisation with strong succession
• Creating a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement

Metrics & Continuous Improvement

• Defining and owning KPIs across delivery, quality, reliability, and throughput
• Using data to drive improvement in engineering performance and outcomes

What We’re Looking For

This role requires senior‑level engineering leadership experience. It will not suit hands‑off managers, delivery coordinators, or candidates without large‑scale ownership.

Essential experience

• 12+ years in software engineering, including 8+ years in senior engineering leadership roles
• Proven leadership of multi‑team or platform‑level engineering organisations
• Strong background in mobile, backend, and/or full‑stack systems
• Experience integrating AI/ML into products or engineering workflows
• Demonstrated ownership of delivery, operations, and production environments
• Experience working across Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall models at scale
• Strong stakeholder leadership with Product, PMO, and executive teams
• Experience delivering SaaS or large‑scale platforms

Highly regarded

• Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud‑native architectures
• Experience with high‑availability, customer‑facing platforms
• Background in sustainment or support‑heavy engineering environments
• Exposure to IoT, telematics, or device‑ingested data platforms
