Position Summary
The Junior Counselor supports the summer camp program by assisting lead counselors in supervising and engaging campers. This role focuses on creating a safe, fun, and inclusive environment while helping implement activities, maintain order, and model positive behavior for campers.
Core Responsibilities
- Assist lead counselors in supervising children during all indoor and outdoor activities to ensure safety and well-being.
- Engage with campers, providing support, encouragement, and guidance to foster a positive camp experience.
- Help implement daily lesson plans, games, and activities under the direction of senior staff.
- Monitor behavior and report any significant concerns or incidents to the lead counselor or program coordinator.
- Support the setup, cleanup, and organization of activity areas and classrooms to maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and camp events as required.
- Perform any other duties as required by the program Coordinator.
Working Conditions:
This role primarily takes place in both classroom and outdoor camp settings, requiring the ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods. Junior Counselors will help supervise children during a variety of activities, including swimming and outdoor play, with daily exposure to varying weather conditions. The position may include flexible hours, depending on the camp schedule, and require active participation in all assigned activities to ensure a safe and engaging environment for campers.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience working with children preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and assist in maintaining a structured environment.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Enthusiastic, patient, and caring demeanor with a genuine interest in working with children.
- Ability to follow directions and take initiative when assisting lead counselors.
