
Environmental Stormwater Project Manager

This Opportunity
WSP is hiring an Environmental Stormwater Project Manager with technical skills in municipal stormwater planning, environmental policy, and compliance services for our Herndon, Virginia office.
The ideal candidate will have experience with municipal and industrial stormwater or environmental programs and extensive knowledge of all aspects of Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permits and Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). Experience in northern Virginia is a plus. Other desirable experience includes community flood management and resiliency, stormwater program costs and financing, watershed planning, stream assessments, the use of ESRI GIS platforms for data analysis, visualization and reporting, and industrial facility stormwater permitting.
Your Impact
- Serve as project manager or task leader for municipal stormwater and flood resiliency projects
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including planners, engineers, field staff, and technical specialists
- Facilitate client meetings for projects and development of new/repeat business
- Some travel is required primarily in northern Virginia (approx. 5% of time)
- Assist with project scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and execution to ensure timely and successful delivery
- Review and oversee work products prepared by junior and mid-level staff, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to entry-level staff, supporting professional development and growth
- Support proposal development, marketing efforts, and client-facing activities
- Build strong working relationships with clients and contribute to long-term account management
- Participation in local and regional water resources organizations, as appropriate, on behalf of WSP
Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, or related field
- 7-10 years of related knowledge and direct involvement in:
- urban hydrology and water quality principles
- municipal stormwater quality management (i.e., MS4 permits, TMDLs, stormwater-related municipal operations, and watershed planning/management)
- Experience with municipal stormwater/flood management/capital plan development and implementation
- Experience with technical writing of stormwater reports, plans, manuals, and/or standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- At least 3 years of experience and direct involvement in project management and the management and coordination of project teams and subcontractors
- Experience with the development of new/repeat business, including writing project qualification, scopes of work and developing project cost estimates
Other Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with development of grant applications and management of grant-funded projects
- Experience with Virginia’s Stormwater Local Assistance Fund (SLAF) and Community Flood Preparedness Fund (CFPF)
- Understanding of the use of ESRI GIS software for data management, spatial analysis, and providing insights for decision-making
