Position: Director of Elementary Education 
 
Purpose: The Director of Elementary Education works in partnership with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction to lead, design, and continuously improve high-quality educational programming. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight of elementary programs, curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and programming, with a focus on improving student outcomes and ensuring equitable access for all learners. 
 
Compensation/Pay Range*: $108,000, negotiable based on experience

Schedule*: Full-time 12-month position. Evening hours or weekend availability may be required for meetings or emergency responses. 
 
Essential Functions:    

  • Coordinates and supervises the alignment and implementation, and ongoing refinement of elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment. 

  • Works collaboratively with district and building administration to monitor student learning and growth across all programs and respond to data to improve outcomes. 

  • Works collaboratively with building administration to oversee and support the following elementary programs: Art, ELA, Early Childhood including UPK, Intervention, Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. 

  • Serves as District liaison with UPK community partners to support program alignment and effectiveness. 

  • Works collaboratively with building administration to support and oversee the elementary teacher leaders. 

  • Coordinates with members of the leadership team to identify, plan, and assess elementary staff development aligned to district priorities.  

  • Coordinates with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction on the review, selection, ordering and support for elementary curricular adoptions.  

  • Provides leadership in the development of a culturally responsive and sustaining educational program for the District. 

  • Supports the development and implementation of a district-wide Multi-Tier Systems of Support. 

  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and leadership team with the preparation of proposed budgets related to curriculum and instruction.  

  • Develops necessary reports, records and similar documentation required for reporting.  

  • Shares Title grant responsibilities with Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.  

  • Assist with the administration of summer programs. 


Additional Duties:  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively with students, families and staff 

  • Possesses strong interpersonal and collaboration skills and the ability to build positive relationships with teachers, administrators, families, and community members 

  • Has in depth knowledge of curriculum, assessment and instruction 

  • Brings knowledge of and experience in student engagement, research-based instructional practices, differentiated instruction, culturally responsive teaching practices and assessment-driven instruction that support student achievement  

  • Understands of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support  

  • Communicates professionally both orally and in writing 

  • Exhibits strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to meet deadlines efficiently 

  • Engages in professional learning and reflective practice

     

Qualifications Profile
 
Certification/License:        Successful professional employment experience in education, including teaching, supervision and curriculum work. Building or District level administrative or district wide curriculum leadership required.  

                                             Valid New York State certification as a School District Administrator. 

Evaluation:                          Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.

Experience:                         Experience working with a diverse population strongly desired. 


Demands, Hazards: Works in standard office and school building environments. Must be able to travel between school buildings. Requires sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day, and occasional lifting of instructional materials 
 
Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. 
 
Travel: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
