00818 - Engineer Technician Senior Materials

What drives you? Our Materials Division is seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Technician III to support Structural Steel Coating applications across Virginia. In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, district staff, manufacturers, and researchers to ensure coatings are evaluated, approved, and applied in accordance with VDOT Specifications.

The ideal candidate will have experience in steel coatings and inspection, with the ability to interpret specifications, review testing results against specifications, and perform field and lab testing to support proper surface preparation and coating application. This role requires statewide travel to investigate coating issues, make coating and surface preparation recommendations to VDOT district and bridge personnel, and work directly with manufacturers on application methods and troubleshooting.
