As an Ingalls Pipe Welder, you are part of an elite team responsible for welding the critical piping systems that power America’s most advanced naval vessels. With precision and mastery, you will join the networks that move chemicals, steam, ventilation, and essential mechanical systems throughout the ship — work that demands focus, skill, and craftsmanship.

What You Can Earn
• Earn up to $39.46 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.

What You’ll Do
• Perform high‑precision pipe welding on Stainless Steel and Copper‑Nickel using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG).
• Weld using additional processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux‑Core Arc Welding (FCAW).
• Work from drawings, specifications, and welding procedures to ensure structural integrity and system reliability.
• Support ship construction in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, including working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
• Maintain safety standards that meet — and often exceed — industry requirements.

What You Bring
• Proven, hands‑on pipe welding experience with TIG/GTAW as a primary process
• Ability to weld Stainless Steel and Copper‑Nickel to exact specifications
• Skill in SMAW and FCAW processes
• Ability to work safely in complex shipyard environments
• Strong commitment to quality, precision, and craftsmanshi
Must Have
• Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/"stick welding")
• Ability to pass military standard X‑Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper‑nickel in the restricted 6G position
• Ability to pass a military specification welding assessment in the 3G (vertical), 2G (horizontal), and 4G (overhead) positions
• Pipe welding test is administered in a restricted position (6G) on a 5" schedule 80 carbon steel pipe
• GTAW (TIG) process used for root pass; 11018 electrode used for weld fill and cap
