Systems Engineer II - Nextech
Job Description
The Nextech Systems Engineer plays a critical role in supporting Forefront’s transition from NexCloud and other legacy practice management/EHR systems to Nextech Practice+, ensuring data integrity, system stability, and seamless user experiences throughout migration and ongoing operations. This role combines technical expertise, workflow understanding, system administration, and integration oversight to support clinical and operational teams using Nextech platforms.
The role functions as a Tier 3 escalation point, providing advanced troubleshooting for complex system issues, integration failures, performance problems, and user access concerns, while serving as the primary technical liaison between internal teams and Nextech vendor support after migration.
This is an engineering-minded role requiring comfort with light coding, scripting, and SQL to solve operational challenges through reproducible solutions, root-cause analysis, automation, and purpose-built utilities. The role also requires fluency with modern AI tools to improve efficiency, documentation, troubleshooting, and workflow optimization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Tier 3 support for Nextech platforms, resolving escalated issues related to application errors, system performance, data integrity, and workflow failures.
- Diagnose root causes across application configuration, integrations, data flows, and infrastructure dependencies.
- Lead efforts to map, transform, validate, and migrate clinical, operational, and administrative data from legacy PM/EHR systems to Practice+.
- Build and maintain repeatable migration tooling using SQL, scripts, and validation queries.
- Manage user provisioning, access permissions, and role configurations across NexCloud and Practice+.
- Serve as an administrator for NexCloud and Practice+, including configuration, optimization, monitoring, and routine maintenance.
- Execute and support upgrades, patches, hotfixes, releases, and regression testing.
- Monitor and troubleshoot integrations between Practice+ and third-party systems.
- Develop expertise in clinical workflows and support optimization initiatives that improve clinic experience and operational efficiency.
- Use AI assistants (e.g., Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to accelerate technical work, automate repetitive tasks, improve troubleshooting, and generate documentation.
- Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, configurations, workflows, and architectural diagrams.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, clinical, operational teams, and vendors to ensure reliable system performance.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with Nextech NexCloud and/or Practice+ platforms.
- Experience supporting regulated healthcare environments and HIPAA requirements.
- Strong understanding of healthcare data structures, EHR workflows, and clinical operations.
- Hands-on experience with data migration, ETL concepts, or system conversions.
- Proficiency in system administration and user access management.
- SQL proficiency sufficient to query, validate, and transform data independently.
- Comfort with light scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar) to automate repetitive tasks and validate data.
- Demonstrated use of AI assistants to improve technical productivity and reduce manual effort.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience within a healthcare organization or clinical application team.
- Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, APIs, and healthcare integration frameworks.
- Experience supporting enterprise application platforms or EHR implementations.
- Experience with ambulatory EHR/PM systems such as NextGen or ModMed.
