
Planning and Zoning Intern
Job Description
This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive. This is temporary, entry level work assisting with planning and zoning research and ongoing projects of the City of Leesburg’s Planning and Zoning Department.
Does related work as required, and depending on area of assignment. Work is performed under regular supervision. Performs research project(s) as assigned with potential policy recommendations for the City. Performs related clerical work, including, but not limited to, copying, answering telephones, providing information on planning activities. Reports to planning staff based on assignment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Requires current enrollment in a Master’s degree level Planning program. This is a temporary assignment. Will work a maximum of 20 hours per week for 3 months +/-. Approximately May 25, 2026 – August 25, 2026. Dates may be adjusted based on candidate availability, but shall not exceed maximum 3 months.
The ideal candidate is interested in research, local government, and is passionate about learning the day-to-day functions of the public sector planning profession. Assignments will be split between research projects(s) with potential policy implications for the City, shadowing planners on the job, and other related functions as assigned.
