The Corporate Communications team shapes how Seagate’s strategy, culture, brand and leadership voice are communicated to employees, customers, investors, and external stakeholders. This team partners closely with senior leadership, HR, Corporate Marketing, Government Relations, Investor Relations, Legal, and business leaders to ensure clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across all channels.
About the role - you will:
We are seeking a Staff Program/Project Manager of Public Relations (Japan) to lead Seagate’s corporate and product communications to shape how our technology, innovation, and leadership are understood by customers, partners, media, CIOs, and the broader market in Japan.
This role is designed for a senior communications leader with deep fluency in Japan’s technology and enterprise market landscape, strong relationships with top‑tier Japanese business and technology media, and experience spanning product PR, analyst relations, and executive communications. Success in this role requires strong local judgment, established media credibility, and the ability to operate effectively across complex partnerships and multi‑party narratives.
You will serve as a trusted advisor to local and regional leadership, translating global strategy into locally relevant, credible, and journalist‑ready stories—while feeding Japan market insight back into global communications strategy. You will partner closely with senior leaders, business segment leads, marketing, legal, HR, government relations, and regional and global teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Brand and Corporate Communications & Issues Management
- Develop and execute Japan‑specific corporate communications strategies aligned with global programs and local market realities.
- Shape clear, credible narratives around Seagate’s technologies, including infrastructure, AI, cloud, data, hardware, and enterprise software for Japanese business, financial, and technology audiences.
- Ensure consistency across earned media, executive communications, owned channels, and key stakeholder communications.
- Provide strategic counsel to Japan and regional leadership on reputation, messaging, and communications risk.
- Support crisis and issues management planning and response, including message development, stakeholder coordination, and rapid execution.
Executive Communications
- Develop and support executive messaging, briefing materials, Q&A, and spokesperson preparation, ensuring cultural and market relevance for Japan.
- Partner with senior executives to elevate visibility and credibility through media engagement, speaking opportunities, and external platforms.
- Advise executives on navigating sensitive or complex topics, including those involving partners, customers, supply chain, or geopolitical considerations.
Media Relations
- Build and maintain close, trusted relationships with Japanese business, enterprise technology, data center, and infrastructure media.
- Lead proactive media outreach, briefings, announcements, and storytelling tailored to Japan’s editorial expectations and relationship norms.
Product PR
- Lead end‑to‑end Japan product PR strategy and execution, from launch planning through sustained storytelling across the product lifecycle.
- Own product communications across consumer, NAS, gaming, video imaging/analytics, enterprise, and cloud segments.
- Adapt global product positioning into Japan‑relevant messaging, reflecting local customer needs, channel dynamics, and competitive context.
- Partner closely with product marketing, regional marketing, sales, and global communications to ensure alignment and disciplined execution.
- Manage product narratives involving partners, joint announcements, or ecosystem dependencies with sound judgment.
Cross Functional Collaboration & Agency Management
- Work closely with marketing, investor relations, government relations, legal, HR, and regional and global communications teams to ensure alignment and coordination.
- Manage PR agency partners and vendors, ensuring strong local execution while aligning with global standards and governance.
- Define success metrics and reporting frameworks to demonstrate impact and inform ongoing strategy.
- Provide regular insight and feedback to global teams on Japan media sentiment, emerging issues, and market dynamics.
About you:
- Extensive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or related fields.
- Proven experience leading media relations, industry analyst relations, and corporate communications programs in a large multi nartional PR agency and then ideally moving into a complex organization.
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate clearly to executive‑level and external audiences.
- Proven experience developing conference and event plans and leading execution aligned with senior leadership team goals and objectives.
- Experience supporting executive communications and high‑stakes, high‑visibility initiatives.
- Sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively under pressure.
- Fluency in English for business settings, including collaboration with global teams, executive communications, and development of written materials
- Fluency in Japanese is required.
Your experience includes:
- Experience in enterprise technology, infrastructure, cloud, AI, semiconductors, enterprise/B2B, data, or hardware/software ecosystems.
- Experience managing agencies and cross‑regional communications programs.
- Familiarity with executive thought leadership, speaking programs, and social platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or equivalent experience.
