Job Summary:

The paramedic will be assigned to treat and transport patients to a small austere medical/trauma hospital. Paramedics will report to the onsite Doctor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides medical services at the scope and level of a Paramedic to preserve the health of employees and client personnel
  • Perform emergency skills, such as managing respiratory, trauma, and cardiac emergencies, and patient assessment
  • Recognizes and treats illnesses and injuries according to established operating instructions within the scope of licensure and regulations of state employment or practice.
  • Measures and records vital signs, collects specimens, and escorts patients and visitors.
  • Prepares examining rooms, selects, and lays out medical supplies, maintains medical equipment
  • Records and reports patient information  
  • Records and maintains patient information in accordance with standard protocols, and the Privacy Act
  • Pursues professional development activities and continuing education to ensure currency with present practices and trends in healthcare and specifically in the practice of emergency medical treatment
  • Protects patients' privacy through confidentiality, infection control procedures, assuring consistent medication administration, and assuring proper storage and maintenance procedures for all equipment and supplies
  • Identifies and records the signs and symptoms of physical and mental conditions
  • Participate as a medical escort for employees being transported off base by ground or flight.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Acuity’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Participates and supports safety meetings, training, and goals.
  • Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performs miscellaneous job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completed an approved DOT curriculum Paramedic Training Program or comparable program.
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
  • Must Hold and Maintain comparable certification Paramedic for the local region.
  • PHTLS/ITLS/TCCC, PALS, ACLS and BLS certifications required. Certification as a urine drug collector may also be required. Equivalent non-U.S. education, certification, diplomas, and experience qualify, after Acuity RMO review.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Emergency Health Services field.
  • Sufficient EMS experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Have at least three years’ experience as a Paramedic.
  • Participate in all assigned training, (including HIPAA training).
  • All health care providers and medical support staff must have recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services or related field preferred.
  • Extensive field experience in a progressive EMS system preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping, and lifting as required for patient care and transport.
