We are seeking an experienced R&D leader who is passionate about building effective teams and implementing clear, streamlined ways of working. You’ll bring structure and clarity to how Materials R&D work is prioritized, planned, and delivered, supporting the effectiveness of the broader team.
What you’ll do
Operational Leadership: Establish and embed a structured operating model for Materials R&D, covering prioritisation, planning, and execution of work across laboratory and R&D activities.
Strategic Roadmapping: Develop and coordinate the annual strategic Materials R&D roadmap aligned with business needs, partnering with R&D, Product Management, and Engineering leaders to prioritise technology investments and development initiatives over a 5–10-year horizon.
Portfolio Governance: Provide portfolio-level governance ensuring clear scope, accountability, and prioritisation of R&D and laboratory programs to meet time, cost, quality, and safety objectives with consistent reporting and delivery discipline.
Laboratory Operating Model & Governance: Define and embed the operating model and governance framework for Materials R&D laboratories, including intake, prioritisation, capacity planning, and performance tracking. Identify and drive improvements in ways of working, tools, and processes to increase visibility, throughput, and reliability of laboratory outputs.
People Leadership: Build and support a strong materials and laboratory leadership community, fostering collaboration, capability development, and consistent ways of working across teams.

What you’ll bring
Must-haves:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related discipline)
Experience in R&D management, portfolio/program governance, or leading R&D operating models
Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership in a global, multi-site environment
Strong leadership and influence skills with an execution mindset to drive change and embed new ways of working
Nice-to-haves:
Postgraduate qualification
Experience in laboratory management and budgeting
Professional engineering accreditation or equivalent
Experience managing researchers or technical teams in industrial or applied research environments
