Job Summary
Under the direction of the Special Imaging Manager, oversees the daily activities of the MRI Department and performs a variety of duties to assure efficient scheduling of patients and staff, as well as maintenance of equipment and department files. Supports the Managers responsibilities with continued feedback and input.

Essential Functions

  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.

  • Orients and trains new staff members in department procedures and equipment. Provides teaching to students and teaches technical skills to Residents and paramedical people approved for such training. Provides input into MRI Technologists performance evaluations.

  • Monitors efficiency of department's operation, as well as quality of examinations performed. Oversees the scheduling of patients for examinations ensuring department quality standards are followed in regards to patient waiting time, quality and safety of MRI procedures and documentation of results.

  • Ensures maintenance contracts on equipment are carried out and routine preventive maintenance takes place as indicated.

  • Facilitates the implementation of protocols and procedures.

  • Reviews, analyzes and resolve routine problems within department. Seeks counsel and/or assistance from manager when appropriate. Communicates solutions or procedure changes to staff and physicians.

  • Monitors predetermined staffing levels. Monitors work for quality and timely completion in conjunction with leadership. Appropriately initiates request for additional staff support in times of high volume. Evaluates, for approval, all PPL request to assure adequate staffing

  • Performs duties of a MRI Technologist such as positioning patient, preparing injections of non-magnetic contrast media and operating the MRI scanner's controls to visualize and manipulate screen images.

  • Selectively reviews patient charts and results of other diagnostic tests to ensure proper exam is performed. Ensures exams are properly coordinated with other radiology exams, if necessary.

  • Is proficient in obtaining a clinical history to guide the diagnostic process and provide clinical information to the Radiologists to support accurate diagnosis.


Legacy Essential Functions

  • Provides input to the manager on selection for new employees.

  • Takes call to meet staffing needs of the department.


Education

  • Completion of certification program from a school of Radiologic Technology required or

  • Associate's Degree in radiology or associated field of study required

  • Bachelor's Degree in radiology or associated field of study preferred


Experience
2+ years Two to four years of extensive MRI experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good analytical ability necessary in order to resolve technical and staffing problems.

  • Interpersonal skills in order to train and direct staff in daily activities, as well as communicate effectively with physicians, members of other departments, patients and parents.

  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when operating equipment and manipulating and reproducing images.

  • Must be able to walk, stand for long periods as well as lift and position patients weighing up to 150 pounds.

  • Must be able to sit for up to 70% of work time.

  • Must be registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology or ARRT registered within six months of hire.

  • Maintaining registered status is required.


Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council Required Upon Hire required

  • ARRT - Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required Upon Hire required

  • ARRT - Magnetic Resonance Imaging - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within 2 Years required

  • License Radiographer (142) - State of Wisconsin Required Upon Hire preferred
