Job Summary
Milwaukee Tool’s Materials Technology team is seeking a Lab Technician to support material analysis, competitive benchmarking, and failure analysis across our product portfolio.
This role is responsible for executing laboratory testing, preparing samples, collecting and documenting data, and supporting engineering teams during product development and production issue resolution. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, and thrives in a fast-paced, technical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Execute material analysis, benchmarking, and failure analysis test requests
Prepare and modify test samples using cutting, machining, and preparation tools
Condition samples per defined test methods and procedures
Operate laboratory equipment (training provided)
Design and fabricate test fixtures to ensure accurate and repeatable results
Capture, analyze, and document test data in internal lab systems
Maintain compliance with lab procedures, safety standards, and work instructions
Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to clarify test requirements and interpret results
Support development and maintenance of internal material property databases
Manage multiple test requests and priorities simultaneously
Qualifications (Required)
Strong mechanical aptitude; hands-on experience with tools and equipment
Laboratory or materials testing experience
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
Effective communication skills across technical teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or related field
Experience with materials characterization techniques:
Melt Flow Rate (MFR)
FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)
DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry)
TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis)
DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis)
Cross-sectioning and polishing samples
Experience supporting product development or manufacturing environments
Experience in molding environments (plastics & rubbers)
Basic machining skills (lathe, CNC, drill press)
Experience creating 3D printed fixtures
