Job Description

CREC Teacher Residency Program (TRP) Internship Overview
The CREC Teacher Residency Program (TRP) is an alternate route to teaching designed to prepare aspiring educators through an immersive, hands-on experience. This 18-month program combines rigorous coursework with a year-long residency under the guidance of an experienced mentor teacher. Upon successful completion, residents are considered for full-time teaching positions within partnering school districts.

  • Interns begin by observing and assisting in the classroom, progressively taking on more instructional duties. This scaffolding approach allows them to build confidence and competence in managing classroom dynamics and delivering content effectively.
  • Planning, Delivering Instruction, and Assessing Student Learning
    Interns are expected to design lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, implement engaging instructional strategies, and use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress. This includes differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

Collaboration with Mentor

  • Co-Planning Lessons and Activities
    Interns work closely with mentor teachers to collaboratively design lessons, classroom activities, and assessments. This partnership fosters shared responsibility and provides opportunities for modeling best practices.
  • Receiving Feedback and Engaging in Reflective Practice
    Regular feedback sessions with mentors help interns identify strengths and areas for growth. Interns are encouraged to reflect on their teaching experiences, adjust strategies, and set professional goals based on constructive input.

Coursework and Assessments

  • Active Participation in Certification-Related Coursework
    Interns must engage fully in all required academic coursework, which supports their development in pedagogy, classroom management, and subject-specific instruction. Participation includes attending lectures, contributing to discussions, and completing readings.
  • Completion of Assignments and Preparation for Assessments
    Interns are responsible for submitting all assignments on time and preparing for certification exams or performance-based assessments. These tasks are designed to demonstrate their readiness for full-time teaching roles.

Professional Development

  • Engagement in Ongoing Professional Learning
    Interns attend workshops, seminars, and professional learning communities to stay current with educational trends and research-based practices. This continuous learning supports their growth as reflective practitioners.
  • Self-Reflection to Improve Teaching Practice
    Interns maintain reflective journals or portfolios to document their experiences, challenges, and successes. This process encourages introspection and helps them refine their instructional approaches.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Building Strong Relationships with Students, Families, and Colleagues
    Interns develop rapport with students and maintain open lines of communication with families to support student success. They also collaborate with colleagues to contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Fostering a Positive and Inclusive Classroom Environment
    Interns create safe, respectful, and inclusive learning spaces where all students feel valued. They implement strategies that promote equity, cultural responsiveness, and social-emotional learning.

Terms of Internship/Employment

  • Defined Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations
    Interns are provided with a clear outline of their duties, working hours, evaluation criteria, and professional conduct standards. These terms ensure mutual understanding between the intern, mentor, and school.
  • Compliance with School Policies and Ethical Standards
    Interns must adhere to all school policies, including confidentiality, attendance, and professional behavior. They are also expected to uphold ethical standards in their interactions and instructional practices.
  • Duration: 10-month, 1-year appointment- SPECIAL FUNDS
