Job Description

Description:
Perform functions to provide hearing services to identified students and educate staff and parents regarding the impact of hearing loss.  This is a FTE 1.0 position and will be August 2026.  


Job Summary:
1 Provide direct instruction to students with hearing loss.
2. Modify and adapt lesions and curriculum materials as needed to meet individual student's need and IEP goals.
3. Modify, adapt and/or conduct assessments to evaluate progress.  Modify and adapt tests, environment or equipment to meet individual student's needs.
4. Review student progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth through team meetings and IEP conferences.
5. Meet regularly with teachers, teacher assistants and specialists to discuss individual student's modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions or problems.  Work collaboratively to ensure individual student's needs are met.
6. Complete required documentation of student progress.
7. Communicate both verbally and in writing with students and case managers on progress.
8. Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment.  Act as role model on appropriate behaviors ensuring social and emotional development is progressing normally.
9. Provide modeling and training to teacher assistants.
10. Consult with audio logical service providers regarding assessment of student hearing.
11. Monitor use and maintenance of hearing equipment.
12. Keep abreast of current evidence based practice related to the field of hearing impairments.
13. Recommend changes in the classroom environment to address students' hearing needs.
14. Actively participate on various district teams or committees.  Provide feedback and act as liaison to other district staff.
15. Enforce and support school policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
16. Participate in staff development, self-development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth.  Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
17. Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation or conferences.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a DHH endorsement (teachers of students who are deaf or hard of hearing).
Working Conditions: Itinerant work across the district
Rate of pay and Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and will be determined by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, which is currently under negotiation.
