Job Description
Responsibilities
- Coordinate maintenance work with core data center infrastructure vendors, including UPS, generators, electrical, cooling, and fire suppression systems.
- Work with other Lightedge personnel, contractors, and vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with data center equipment.
- Install servers and network devices into racks with associated network cabling.
- Work with project managers and technicians to facilitate new client service installations.
- Receive and document incoming shipments.
- Facilitate and lead data center tours.
- Coordinate the design and layout of new rack and cage environments with supporting cabling infrastructure and power connectivity.
- Possess and maintain comprehensive knowledge of Lightedge physical infrastructure and building systems, including mission-critical power, cooling, video, and biometric security systems.
- Respond to and resolve alarm events affecting infrastructure and services.
- Follow established Change Control processes; create, review, and follow MOP change activities.
- Ensure operational efficiencies and best practices toward maintaining availability/ uptime of all 24X7 facilities, mission-critical operations, and infrastructure.
- Share and mentor technical knowledge and operational experience with team members to enhance professional growth and practical cross-training of the DC Ops and Support teams.
- Available for on-call rotation to support non-business hours, oversee preventative maintenance and break/fix activity by vendors, perform routine maintenance, optimize infrastructure, and provide client support.
- Conduct and document quality audit facility inspections to ensure we align with our certifications.
- Fill in for the Facilities Manager when requested or in the manager’s absence.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Requires a minimum of a two-year technical degree or 8-10 years equivalent experience in a technical environment or military MOS.
- Responsible for installing hardware and cabling necessary for installing new IT services.
- Must be proficient in all wiring types and requirements, such as Ethernet, Phone, CAT6, and Fiber (SM & MM)
- Experience with day-to-day standard maintenance activities in data centers
- Familiarity with telco central office equipment.
- Robust computer user hardware and software skillset, high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and utilization of web browsers. This position requires console into equipment (various vendors; Cisco, Fortinet, Brocade, etc.) and being able to provide essential troubleshooting assistance on site where necessary. The equipment list includes but is not limited to, Servers, Blade Chassis, Routers, Switches, and Firewalls.
- Experience monitoring and operating complex electrical systems, including generators, transfer switches, PDUs, Breaker panels, and UPSs.
- Knowledge of data center cooling systems and airflow management techniques
- Ability to multitask and prioritize activities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw a sound conclusion.
- Demonstrated experience documenting policies and procedures.
- Experience working with building and computerized management systems is desired to support and augment building monitoring systems. This is not a requirement but is a skillset preferred for this position.
- Specialize as a subject matter expert on two or more areas or systems – Security/biometrics, CMDB, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Building Management Systems, or Environmental Systems.
