The Pipeline Crew Leader (PPS) reporting location is Kinder Morgan’s Coudersport, PA location but due to the extensive travel, candidates near other Kinder Morgan locations within 60 miles of Coudersport, Pennsylvania may be considered.

 

This position will support all Pipeline Project Support (PPS) construction projects on Natural Gas, Products and CO2 pipelines.  This position will lead a team of approximately 7 employees, including 3 Pipeline Support Specialists and 4 Welders in addition to crew labor support contractors.


What You Will Do

The Pipeline Crew Leader is responsible for planning and directing the work activities of a pipeline construction crew, associated with the maintenance, repair and new construction of pipeline facilities and their associated right of ways. 

 

Pipeline Maintenance crews will also perform major and minor construction projects relating to pipeline anomaly repair, pipe replacement, hydrostatic testing and new facility installations and some Greenfield type projects on Natural Gas, Products and CO2 pipeline systems.  Qualified candidate directly reports to a Pipeline Maintenance Manager and works with Project Engineering, Area Field Operations Management, Technical Engineering, Gas Control, Environmental Permitting, other PPS Crew Leads, PPS Estimators and Project Cost Analysts in prioritizing, scheduling, assuring permits and providing cost estimates for PPS involved projects.   In addition, monthly project forecasts and variance reporting by project is required relative to assigned projects, crew forecasting as well as internal PPS budgets.  The incumbent must ensure crew compliance with regulatory and company policies relative to welding procedures, pipeline construction, FMCSA and OSHA to promote a safe, compliant, professional and efficient work environment.  Successful candidate will assist the Area and Division Management teams in developing annual capital and O&M project estimates and ensure assigned projects are completed with the prescribed budgets and regulatory compliance dates.  Travel is expected to be up to 80%.

 

  • The Crew Lead is a working team member who will handle supervisory type duties including: coaching employees, participating in performance reviews, participating in employment and termination decisions, providing technical training, and recommending job level increases.
  • Complete extensive Administrative duties to include: written work plans, cost tracking and forecasting duties.
  • Utilize extensive skill, knowledge and experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment (backhoe, track hoe, side boom, and dozer) and welding operations.
  • Other responsibilities include: performing hot tapping, completing follow up work based on data received from pigging operations, managing pipe change-outs, following hazardous work plans (including hot work permitting and lock out/tagout), and installation of fabricated assemblies.
  • Utilize knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and DOT pipeline regulations pertaining to natural gas and products pipelines.
  • Identify and re-mediate hazards before and during the team’s work on projects.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions and utilize stop work authority to correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Actively participate and lead the team in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
  • Work overtime as necessary including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Frequently travel including overnight stays for extended periods of time.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Need

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency of.

 

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience on pipeline maintenance or construction projects preferred.
  • Background utilizing strong planning and organization skills with the ability to prioritize and organize work/projects.
  • Experience managing a work group.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships and promote teamwork, foster open expression of ideas and opinions, provide and accept constructive feedback, and be an active listener.
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed records.
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office software including Excel, various operating systems, and other software).
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information that is clear, concise, accurate and tactful.
  • Customer focused.
  • Strong mechanical skills are needed.
  • Ability to work with others in a team setting, take direction from supervision, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to work with customers, suppliers, other operations groups, engineering staff, and management.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment over rough terrain.
  • Knowledge and experience with safe handling practices of flammable gases on high pressure natural gas and products pipeline systems.
  • Ability to plan and conduct efficient meetings and training sessions.
  • Experience with contracting and supervising outside construction support, tracking expenditures, and forecasting costs for project expenditures.
  • Experience with CDL, Federal Regulations and welding process and procedures regarding application and compliance.
  • Ability to be or become knowledgeable in company administrative and operating policies/procedures and hold teams accountable to these
  • Must be available for call-out 24/7.
  • Ability to complete all tasks with a focus on safety.

  • May be required to possess a commercial driver’s license, drive a company commercial vehicle and comply with all commercial vehicle regulations.
  • Will be required to achieve and maintain operation qualifications as required to perform job duties.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a DOT drug screen and a complete background check after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
