Librarian II-Fulshear-Youth

  • Performs collection development for young adults; Recommends materials for selection, prepares orders, assists branches with weeding damaged and outdated materials.
  • Directs support services staff in all processing and data entry of young adult materials.
  • Conducts regular meetings with YA representatives from branch locations, provides support, monitors collections and programming.
  • Assists with developing goals, policies and procedures for YA collections and services.
  • Develops, plans and/or conducts a variety of programs and activities to encourage library use by young adults ages 14-18; Evaluates services to young adults in conjunction with the Programming Manager and Youth Services Coordinator.
  • Creates and promotes an environment that attracts and invites young adults to use the collection; Creates bookmarks and displays for young adult areas; Assists branch YA representatives in planning collections, programs and spaces for young adults.
  • Promotes, publicizes and represents young adult services and the library to the community; Utilizes a variety of techniques (book talks, competitions, etc.) to encourage young adults; Collaborates with schools and other agencies providing services to young adults.
  • Provides a variety of information services to young adults; May instruct young adults in basic computer use and basic research skills; May provide reference and reader’s advisory to young adults.
  • Maintains communication and good working relationship with other library departments (PIO, Youth Services, Programming, Staff Development, etc.)
  • Attends conferences, trainings and workshops as appropriate; May attend monthly collection development and database meetings; Keeps statistical records of unit activities and prepares appropriate reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school.
  • 2 years job related experience; post MLS experience preferred.
  • Computer skills; Good verbal and written communication, supervisory and organizational skills; Interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials; Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

SALARY: $28.80-$36.00 /HOURLY
