Job Description

The Commissioning (Cx) Manager supports commissioning and system startup activities by performing quality control inspections, verifying installation readiness, assisting with vendor/startup coordination, and ensuring all documentation meets project and client standards. This role works closely with the Cx team, construction management, and subcontractors to confirm systems are safe, complete, and ready for operational testing.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Perform quality inspections on mechanical, electrical, controls, and process systems prior to startup.
  • Verify systems are construction-complete and safe for energization/startup.
  • Review vendor startup requirements and confirm prerequisites are met.
  • Support the commissioning team by tracking deficiencies, documenting progress, and updating checklists.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure proper installation, testing, and documentation.
  • Assist with system turnover documentation and QA/QC record-keeping.
  • Participate in startup and commissioning meetings with Cx teams and trade partners.
  • Conduct field walks to identify gaps or issues that may impact startup activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including checklists, daily reports, punch items, and test records.
  • Support the Cx Program by ensuring adherence to project processes and client standards.
  • Collaborate with Construction Managers, Project Engineers, and vendors during functional testing and system operational reviews.
  • Assist in verifying testing procedures, safety requirements, and commissioning sequences.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment in the field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a complex environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, drawings, specs, and controls sequences.
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with subcontractors, engineers, and client representatives.
  • Ability to work in active construction environments, including elevated or tight-space conditions.
  • Flexibility to support extended hours or off-shift testing activities as needed.
  • 5+ years of experience in commissioning, QA/QC, MEP systems, or startup support (data center or semiconductor preferred).
  • Knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems, system controls, and equipment startup requirements.
  • Experience with QA/QC processes, commissioning checklist management, and turnover documentation.
  • Ability to identify system readiness requirements and interface with trade partners.
  • Familiarity with medium/low voltage systems, UPS, generators, chillers, pumps, AHUs, or process equipment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction/commissioning documentation tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience (preferred, but not required if experience is strong).
  • Must be able to access all areas of an active construction site.
