Position Summary:

Husky Health Center at the University of Washington has an excellent opportunity for a Student Healthcare Counselor – OB/GYN to join our growing clinical staff.

About this Opportunity:

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, this position collaborates with clinicians and other team members to provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health counseling, including pregnancy options and medication abortion counseling, while providing patient care coordination, advocacy, and support for UW students.

This is a 1.0 FTE, 11-12-month onsite position

Salary range –$4,586 - $6,879 per month

Key Responsibilities:

Birth Control, Sexual and Reproductive Health Counseling – 40%

  • Provide patient-centered comprehensive contraceptive counseling

  • Educate students about available birth control methods

  • Assess needs for cervical cancer screening, STI screening, and pregnancy testing, and coordinate care as appropriate

  • Evaluate concerns related to contraceptive use in consultation with clinic providers

  • Discuss pre-conception planning and distribute educational materials related to pregnancy planning

Pregnancy Options and Medication Abortion Counseling – 10%

  • Offer empathetic, non-directive counseling to students facing unplanned pregnancies or considering their options

  • Provide accurate, evidence-based information on pregnancy, abortion, and adoption processes

  • Assist students considering medication abortion, offering clear information on procedures, side effects, and follow-up care

General Health Counseling, Care Coordination, and Student Support – 35%

  • Address a range of health and well-being concerns, including sexuality, gender identity and expression, sexual assault, abuse and violence prevention, and access to care

  • In collaboration with a medical provider, coordinate interpretation and follow-up of test results

  • Identify urgent problems and consult with clinical providers as appropriate

  • Facilitate access to care by coordinating referrals and prior authorizations, and communicate with internal and external providers as appropriate

  • Complete Insurance Navigator certification and provide coverage for other HHC navigators as needed

  • Support students in navigating the health care system and accessing appropriate services

  • Connect students with campus and community-based health, counseling, and reproductive health resources

  • Contribute to reproductive health education and outreach efforts, including updating materials and delivering presentations as requested

Clinic and Team Support – 15%

  • Manage the Abnormal Pap Smear and LEEP rosters, including tracking follow-up and sending patient reminders

  • Assist with OB/GYN clinic scheduling, including procedure scheduling

  • Serve as a resource for HHC staff on reproductive health topics

  • Train as a chaperone for sensitive exams and participate in HHC’s chaperone team

  • Serve on HHC committees as requested

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in health care, public health, counseling, health education, or related field

  • At least two years of direct interaction with patients in a healthcare setting

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems (e.g. EPIC)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience providing care management, reproductive health counseling, pregnancy options counseling and/or sexual health education

  • Formal training or certification in Family Planning and/or Pregnancy Options counseling

Working Conditions:

Husky Health staff members are considered essential employees and are expected to report to work during UW closures for severe weather, natural disasters, or other emergency conditions.

Work hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Work location: UW-Seattle Campus

Telecommute: This is a 100% onsite position

Husky Health Center, on the UW Seattle Campus in the Division of Student Life, is an AAAHC-accredited outpatient facility providing high quality health care to a primarily young adult population. As a student-focused clinical unit within the Division of Student Life, we are committed to supporting the health, well-being, and success of UW’s student population. We provide comprehensive, full-spectrum primary and preventive care in over 40,000 patient encounters annually. Our services include Primary and Same Day Care, Physical Therapy, Sports Medicine, OB/GYN and Travel Medicine. We are co-located with an on-site pharmacy and a branch of the UW Medicine Laboratory, and we work collaboratively with campus partners like the UW Counseling Center and Student Life’s health promotion and prevention services to provide holistic support that helps students thrive throughout their Husky experience.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$55,032.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$82,548.00 annual
