PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- To achieve and maintain standards of excellence in the instructional program in mathematics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Master's Degree Preferred
- Texas Teacher Certificate
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Possess knowledge and training in supervision and curriculum development
- Possess knowledge of effective instructional techniques and strategies
- Possess skills to speak and write clearly and concisely in conveying messages to a variety of audiences and possess listening and reading skills which facilitate understanding of messages conveyed by others
- Have knowledge, understanding, and value of technology in public school education
- Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of the MISD
- Possess knowledge and understanding of best researched based practice for developing conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning in math students
- Exhibit highly effective organizational and consensus building skills
- Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills
- Ability to develop and deliver high-quality professional learning to a wide variety of audiences
EXPERIENCE:
- Successful experience as a teacher in assigned curricular area
- Successful experience as an instructional leader at the campus or district level
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Conduct research and develop the educational program designed to meet the needs of the students aligned to state standards
- Utilize the coaching model to grow and support facilitators
- Assist in determining and recommending standard equipment and basic materials for classrooms
- Work directly with the Math Coordinator to ensure vertical alignment of curriculum resources for various strands of mathematics
- Oversee district compliance with state legislation
- Serve as technical consultant to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Directors and all the Executive Directors, as well as to the instructional program, especially in specialization
- Analyze testing results and assist teachers and campuses in utilizing the results for program improvement and for placement of students in ninth grade mathematics courses
- Assist the staff in appraising and suggesting improvements in the overall educational program
- Assist with reports to state and federal agencies in regard to respective specialty areas (government title funds, business grants, special foundation grants, etc.)
- Direct the planning and preparation of teaching materials and district level assessments.
- Assist library services in providing current and relevant resources to library materials
- Develop and provide professional learning based on needs assessment
- Conduct individual conferences, informal grade-level discussions, combined grade level or system-wide meetings
- Evaluate and assist in the selection of textbooks, workbooks, technology, software, manipulatives, and other materials and acts as liaison between the school district and merchants
- Lead facilitators in alignment with district and department vision
- Manage assigned budget related to mathematics instructional resources
- Serve as the liaison between TEA, Region X, and MISD in all matters related to mathematics
- Support district initiatives in areas meant to improve outcomes for students
- Perform other duties as assigned

Physical demands/environmental factors:
- Intermittent walking, sitting, and standing
- Occasional warehouse visits to inventory merchandise and occasional lifting, moving of up to 20 lbs
- Travel within the district and state
- Prolonged and irregular hours
