Description

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Area Manager to join our team in Atlanta, GA. The Area Manager position provides the vision, leadership, and management necessary to ensure business growth and effectiveness within their assigned geographic market area while ensuring the development, implementation, and coordination of projects, plans, and programs, and the formulation and regulatory compliance of related policies and procedures, subject to approval by the Vice President. The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive, and energetic collaborative and team-oriented style guided by the objectives of the company.


Key Responsibilities

  • The Area Manager brings a strong project management competency level with experience to support effective completion of all projects within their assigned geographic area. 
  • The Area Manager brings an advanced level of business acumen in working with clients and interfacing with clientele on a regular basis, representing our brand with integrity and multidisciplinary expertise.  
  • The Area Manager will actively lead and drive the growth of business development opportunities for Waggoner Engineering. 
  • The Area Manager will identify, train, and develop leaders within the company and set them on the path for management. 
  • The Area Manager will maintain a working knowledge of all phases of operations within their assigned geographic area, coordinate to support operations throughout the business, and provide regular performance updates to the senior leadership team.
  • The Area Manager will create and implement a strategic one-page plan to help track Waggoner and Trilon company KPIs.
  • The Area Manager will work closely with Human Resources and the Senior Leadership team to define and implement operational strategy, structure, processes, and successful performance.
  • The Area Manager will provide oversight and strategic guidance related to project budgets, financial performance, and resource planning.
  • The Area Manager will support the Vice President with financial reporting responsibilities and performance monitoring to identify efficiency issues and propose solutions proactively.
  • The Area Manager will guide, direct, and evaluate the work of all Project Managers within their assigned geographic area.
  • The Area Manager will monitor cash flow of their assigned geographic area and work with Project Accountants and Project Managers to ensure timely payment from clients.
Essential Functions
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management that mirrors the company's adopted mission and core values. 
  • Responsible for providing leadership and support to Project Managers in achieving business, operational, and client service goals for the assigned geographic area. 
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes, internal and external. Provides timely, accurate, and complete reports on the operating condition of the assigned geographic area. 
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective business growth strategies and processes in their market area and the achievement of the growth metrics. 
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate our organization's growth and profitability objectives. 
  • Motivate, mentor, and support a collaborative and high-performing team; assist with the recruitment and retention of staff; provide mentoring and training to project managers as a cornerstone to the career development program. 
  • Fosters an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled operations meetings with the Vice President to discuss operating performance, resource sharing and leveling, and process improvement.
  • Participate in the business planning process of the company.
  • Participate in other assignments and committees assigned by the Vice President from time to time.
  • Act as lead client account manager and project manager for high-profile clients and large projects within their assigned geographic area. 
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and team-oriented environment focused on client success and employee development. 
  • Represent the firm with clients and business partners.

  • Growth Management - Ability to align major workgroups and their systems and processes to achieve growth objectives while maintaining exceptional project management quality; develops and ensures the execution of strong marketing systems to grow existing client revenue and attract new clients and projects; develops, implements, and monitors growth plans in alignment with the strategic objectives; demonstrates strong client relationship building skills in attracting and growing long-term clients.
  • Operational Management - Uses familiarity with targeted markets to develop, implement and monitor long-term operating plans consistent with business strategies; monitors business environment and company operating performance to adjust activities to achieve desired results; demonstrates knowledge of operational controls and administrative reporting procedures, marketing and people systems to achieve success; identifies major client performance requirements and links critical information and resources across business units to meet requirements.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has overall supervisory responsibility for all Project Managers and Client Account Managers within the assigned geographic area.  This position reports to the Vice President, wherein the assigned geographic area resides.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position may occasionally require extended hours or travel based on business needs, project priorities, or client commitments.
Travel
Travel outside the local area and overnight travel is expected to meet operating unit needs.


What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • At least ten years of strong operating management experience in the consulting engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in professional services business development and growth.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing projects and operating units.
  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning for projects and operating units.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Possess personal integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission.
  • Adaptable and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic and evolving environment while driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in business or related field. 
  • At least five years in a senior management role.
  • Certification as a professional engineer, professional geologist, or PhD in other related professional fields.
