About This Role

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for the provision of speech and language diagnostic and therapeutic services to students, collaboration with and support of parents and school support staff, driving the district's commitment to Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Planning and Preparation 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development, especially of characteristics of students/children in the age group assigned. 
  • Set appropriate instructional goals. 
  • Design coherent instruction based on district learning targets, the primary function of this position and student data. 
  • Design formative and summative assessments that measure student performance based on established learning targets. 
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding and knowledge of current technology, that is incorporated as a natural instructional tool, in constant use. 
  • Assure that the students always have the appropriate supplies available to perform the tasks required in the various modules.
• Classroom Environment 
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport. 
  • Establish a culture for learning. 
  • Manage classroom procedures. 
  • Manage student behavior.               
  • Organize the physical environment to promote learning.
• Instruction 
  • Implement instruction planned in accordance with Section

Candidate Qualifications

• Master's degree, or higher
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Endorsement
• School-based experience recommended, but not required.

Physical Requirements: 

This position requires the performance of light work�which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking, climbing stairs and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.  The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere.  The position requires indoor and outdoor supervision during varying temperatures and climatic conditions.
