As a Surgical Technician in the Weekend Flex Program, you will provide surgical support by performing scrub duties and assisting with circulating responsibilities under the direction of a Registered Nurse while maintaining professional growth through ongoing formal and informal education. You will demonstrate a positive, compassionate, and patient-centered approach to care while contributing to a supportive healthcare environment dedicated to serving the community. This flexible schedule offers an excellent opportunity to balance personal time while delivering high-quality patient care.

A caregiver in this role works weekend days from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform scrub functions.  

  • Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.  

  • Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery. 

  • Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients. 

  • Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.  

  • Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”  

  • Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a surgical technology program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES

  • OR completion of a military surgical technology program

  • OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting). 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited Surgical Technology Program 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
