Job Description

Valiant is looking for a Lead Electrician to join our team!  The Lead Electrician primarily performs and oversees preventative and corrective maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of interior and exterior electrical wiring, including the facility's Essential Electrical System (EES - Life Safety, Critical, Equipment branches), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, normal power distribution, exterior high voltage/low voltage electrical circuits/systems, and equipment associated with electrical components throughout the campus. As a working lead, this role also provides daily guidance, training, and work direction to a team of electricians. Ensures all work complies with relevant codes, minimizes impact on patient care operations, and adheres to the highest safety standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee, lead, mentor, and train employees to complete assigned electrical tasks within established guidelines, safety protocols, and timeframes.
  • Schedule work, delegate tasks effectively, and manage team resources and manpower levels to accomplish the workload per the schedule.
  • Inspect work performed by the electrical team for quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for the electrical team, providing expert guidance on complex electrical issues, code interpretation, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Foster a strong safety culture within the team, championing adherence to all electrical safety procedures including Arc Flash and LOTO.
  • Provide the technical breakdown for all electrical in-house Service Orders, including detailed estimates for materials and labor to support SO package development.
  • Assist supervisor/manager with performance feedback for team members and identify training needs.
  • May be required to review/audit unscheduled Work Orders and scheduled Preventative Maintenance documentation to ensure accuracy prior to submission for DMLSS entry.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all maintenance trades during assigned shift, ensuring effective coordination of multi-trade activities and communication across departments.
  • Assign and close out scheduled and unscheduled work requests.
  • Lead shift operations by managing 24/7 365 shift coverage
  • Identify failures and accurately determine time and materials required for boiler repairs to support service order estimate generation.
  • Maintain a high degree of housekeeping.
  • Perform, and direct others in the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of healthcare facility electrical systems, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment.
  • Oversee and participate in the testing, installation, repair and maintenance of a variety of electrical equipment, such as emergency generators, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), isolation panels, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of the facility's Essential Electrical System (EES) branches and associated UPS systems.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of how electrical systems power and interface with critical low-voltage systems such as fire alarm systems and nurse call systems.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in maintaining and repairing exterior and interior electrical wiring and components, adhering to strict safety protocols (LOTO, Arc Flash safety).
  • Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and control wiring diagrams that pertain to the electrical systems.
  • Must have the skill and knowledge to use all hand and power tools, specialized electrical test equipment (e.g., power quality meters, insulation testers, circuit tracers), shop machines, and aerial booms utilized by the craft.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical circuits and power supplies for fire and security alarm systems. (Clarified scope)
  • Working with standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
  • Assist the maintenance team with related tasks as required and perform other duties appropriate to the role as assigned.
  •  Adhere strictly to hospital Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols during all maintenance, repair, and installation activities.
  • Coordinate electrical work and shutdowns with facilities management, infection prevention, and clinical department leaders to ensure patient safety and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Ensure all electrical work performed by the team is properly documented for compliance with TJC, CMS, NFPA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to electrical emergencies and system failures, troubleshoot effectively, lead the response team, and restore power safely.
