Environmental Specialist 2

Where We Need You: 

Ohio EPA wants you to serve in this role within the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC) at our Northwest District Office in Bowling Green, Ohio.

 

Why We Need You: 

Ohio EPA is looking for a detail oriented, knowledgeable team player to help us protect air quality by regulating emissions from air contaminant sources. In this position you’ll review and process air permit applications, analyze engineering plans, and model and calculate air toxics for industrial and commercial facilities to ensure their emissions comply with state and federal regulations.

 

You’ll perform inspections of new and existing facilities, including observing emission tests and investigating air quality complaints. You’ll review facility reports for completeness and accuracy and prepare correspondence to document compliance matters. To help them meet and maintain compliance requirements, you’ll communicate with industries and consultants during permit reviews and inspections and provide topical guidance and direction.

 

You’ll work closely with colleagues both inside and outside the agency, contribute to new policy or regulation development, and assist with enforcement cases when needed.

  • Conduct complaint investigations.

  • Provide technical guidance and direction regarding permitting and compliance topics.

  • 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
  • OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
  • OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
