Job Description
This role is primarily remote/hybrid with travel to UK sites.
We are looking for an ambitious, technically minded Graduate Systems Engineer to join our Guardian Mobile delivery team. This role is designed for a high-flying graduate who wants to develop their career by taking ownership of complex infrastructure, systems integration, and deployment environments.
In this role, you will transition to take full systems engineering ownership of assigned Guardian Mobile deployments. Working closely with the Technical Project Manager, you will bridge the gap between operational needs and intricate enterprise architecture. You will own the technical configuration, system design validation, and end-to-end integration of our mobile solutions for strategic emergency services customers across the UK.
Because our products are targeted at Emergency Services to respond to life-critical situations, a highly analytical, rigorous, and risk-averse approach to system design and engineering is imperative.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Systems Engineering & Ownership: Support the design validation, integration, and deployment of the Guardian Mobile Solution from contract award through to go-live and live service.
- Enterprise Integration: Partner with the Customer's IT and Infrastructure leads to integrate the Guardian Mobile system securely into their complex environment architectures.
- System Configuration: Capture customer operational requirements and translate them into robust, high-availability technical system configurations.
- Technical Architecture Documentation: Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation relating to system level designs, implementation patterns, and interfaces.
- Product Collaboration: Work closely with the Guardian Mobile product engineering team to ensure new infrastructure requirements, features, and platform integrations align with project designs.
- Technical Stakeholder Engagement: Act as an internal and external technical point of contact for systems engineering, liaising confidently with customers and third-party suppliers.
Basic Requirements
Academic & Technical Qualifications:
- A formal qualification (First-Class or 2:1 Degree) in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture, IT, or a highly relevant engineering discipline.
- IMPORTANT - Ability to obtain NPPV3 and SC security clearance (requires UK residency for a minimum of 5 years).
Core Systems Engineering Knowledge (Academic, Placement, or Project-Based Experience):
We are looking for a graduate who can demonstrate an advanced, foundational understanding of the following enterprise technologies:
- System Level Design: Fundamental knowledge of high-level systems architecture and software infrastructure design.
- Networking Principles: Strong understanding of network security, WAN technologies, routing, and firewalls.
- Microsoft Server Ecosystem: Familiarity with the Microsoft Server Family (including Server Core, IIS web hosting, Application Request Routing, and file shares).
- High Availability & Clustering: Theoretical understanding or lab experience with Microsoft Server High Availability, failover clustering, and load balancing.
- Database Management: Solid foundational experience/knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (querying, database structures, or system support).
- Cloud Architecture: Familiarity with or exposure to implementing/engineering applications within Microsoft Azure or hybrid cloud environments.
Soft Skills & Methodologies:
- Troubleshooting: Exceptional engineering problem-solving skills with a natural curiosity to dig into complex infrastructure and software issues.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex systems architecture into clear language for various stakeholders.
- Agile & DevOps Mindset: Knowledge of Agile Project Management and modern software development/DevOps delivery models.
Highly Desirable:
- An industrial placement year or internship experience in an enterprise systems engineering, infrastructure, or software deployment environment.
- Knowledge of or exposure to UK blue-light (Police, Fire, or Ambulance) agencies, control room operations, or Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) software.
