Position Highlights

Location: Remote, must be based in the United States. Relocation expenses are not provided. Up to 10% domestic travel may be required.

Salary Range: $90,000-$105,000 plus benefits

Position Type: Grant funded, limited-term opportunity contingent upon funding

Position Start Date: Immediate availability required

Position End Date: July 31, 2027

 

Overview

The CDC Foundation is seeking a candidate for a full-time Project Manager position to support an evaluation capacity-building project for non-governmental Veteran-serving organizations (VSOs) that are implementing programs aligned with a public health upstream approach to suicide prevention. The Project Manager combines strong management and leadership with an entrepreneurial and mission-driven approach to unleash the power of collaboration between the CDC Foundation, the Safe States Alliance, CDC, Veteran Serving Organizations; and other partners to protect the health, safety and security of the public.


This position will work closely with CDC Foundation project staff, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) subject matter experts and Safe States Alliance project team to provide expert-level support and guidance, acting as a key resource to funded project grantees in developing their capacity to plan and conduct evaluations of their veteran suicide prevention programs. 


The Project Manager will support the Veteran Suicide Prevention Evaluation (VSPE) project that aims to leverage expertise in program evaluation to assess the evaluation capacity building needs of the funded VSOs and collaborate with other partners to develop and implement engaging, culturally appropriate, and impactful capacity building in response to those needs. The ideal candidate will also provide technical oversight on all evaluation and performance monitoring deliverables aimed at demonstrating the impact of VSPE activities on VSOs. Strong communication and teamwork skills are of absolute importance to succeed in this role.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Formulates program-related goals, objectives, operating policies, strategic plans, guidelines, governance, standards and priorities to ensure consistency with organization, department and division standard operating procedures.
  2. Serve as the primary project liaison for and between internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Builds strong partnerships and provides strategic implementation expertise that ensures impactful, efficient and effective program implementation.
  4. Lead the administration of grantmaking activities, including RFP development, contracting, invoicing, reporting, and dissemination initiatives with non-governmental Veteran-serving organizations.
  5. Oversee budget forecasting and financial reporting to internal teams and donors. 
  6. Hires, recruits, supervises, mentors and serves as a technical partner for other employees on the assigned project.
  7. Prepares deliverables, workplans, narrative reports, presentations, briefing documents, and other relevant communications to key internal and external partners in collaboration with project team. 
  8. Collaborate with evaluation staff and support the design and implementation of performance and impact evaluations across the broader VSPE activities. 
  9. Support technical staff in supporting a responsive capacity building and technical assistance approach to VSO grantees.
  10. Support technical staff as they advise, partner with, and coach grantees to strengthen competencies for strong, ongoing program evaluation, in collaboration with the project team and funding partners. 
  11. Contributes to resource mobilization efforts for the assigned project.
  12. Represents the CDC Foundation at technical and strategic planning meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  13. May travel domestically as needed to represent the designated programs and the CDC Foundation (up to 10% annually). 
  14. Participates in and/or leads special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications and Necessary Skills

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in public health, public administration, community development, or related field required.
  2. Strong project management and grant management skills and ability to meet deadlines. Candidates with a minimum of ten [BM2] years project management experience required.
  3. Demonstrated experience with partnership engagement, strategic relationship stewardship and new business development.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex documents such as detailed reports to donors; briefing documents for external audiences, donors, and other stakeholders/partners.
  5. Demonstrated the ability to work well independently and within teams.
  6. Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, donors, stakeholders, and partners.
  7. Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally. 
  8. Experience managing or overseeing capacity building efforts sufficient to provide advice and guidance regarding appropriate training and equipping activities. 
  9. Exposure to monitoring and evaluation with a focus on integrating evidence building into upstream public health programs. 
  10. Preferred familiarity with the CDC Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health and the American Evaluation Association’s Guiding Principles for Evaluators.
  11. Preferred experience with military and veteran communities and or working on injury and violence prevention topics.
