Job Description

Plan and assist physician with sleep clinics in accordance with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and practice’s guidelines. Prepares patients and equipment for sleep studies, conducts polysomnographic testing, and monitors recordings to ensure accurate data collection and patient safety. Recognizes abnormal sleep patterns or cardiac events and provides appropriate interventions while adhering to established clinical protocols and procedures.

· Ability to perform all duties as a sleep technician/technologist in accordance with the AASM and practice’s guidelines.

· Review existing patient information in the medical record, verify study orders, and prepare patient questionnaires.

· Interview patient access to current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestion, current sleep pattern, and need for treatment intervention during testing (e.g., insulin).

· Responsible following proper polysomnographic procedure related to preparing equipment, calibration of equipment, monitoring recording activities, analyzing results, and fitting of airway pressure masks.

· Must demonstrate working knowledge of polysomnography, MSLTs, and oximetry.

· Ability to recognize sleep pathology when it occurs and respond with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety. (CPAP, Bilevel, ASV, oxygen therapies, etc.).

· Able to take patient vital signs accurately and recognize cardiac arrhythmias.

· Ability and knowledge to always follow all standard operating procedures for patient studies and pre & post-study requirements.


Patient and Equipment Safety

· Recognize and respond appropriately to patient’s medical problems and physiological events.

· Ensure safety and welfare of all patients.

· If necessary, safely lift and move patient without harm to patient or self.

· Comply with Universal Infection Control Procedures & standard precautions.



Work Experience

· RPSGT

· BCLS

· Active Maryland state license
