Job Duties:

Under general supervision of the Facility Services Heating Plant Superintendent.  This position will teach you to monitor, operate, adjust, maintain, and repair a variety of technical equipment for the campus Heating plant to supply the campus with critical services. The skill, ability and knowledge of the incumbent gained during training period will have direct and profound impact on the success and satisfaction level in the delivery of services to customers within the area of responsibility.  Given the pace of emerging technology, the incumbent must stay in touch with industry/system-wide trends and best practices.  This position will perform work under direct supervision of Heating Plant Superintendent and Heating/Cooling Plant Operator II. Upon successfully completing probation and training this position will be advanced to the Heating/Cooling Plant Operator II position.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with preventative and corrective maintenance as needed
  • Works under direct supervision while on shift operations
  • Maintains forms, logs, or reports
  • Cleans and maintains work areas and equipment
  • Makes regular inspections of plant equipment and prepares equipment malfunction reports
  • Communicates to/with plant personnel to ensure operational and safety objectives are met
  • Starts, stops, and adjusts equipment settings to maintain operational requirements
  • Adheres to safety protocols and procedures
  • Complies with environmental protection protocols and procedures
  • Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the plant and its associated equipment

Compensation & Benefits:

This is an annual, full-time, hourly position.

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting hourly wage of of $24.69

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to respond to after-hours phone calls including weekends and holidays if training opportunities arise.

  • Ability to maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license through periodic DMV checks of driving record (regular, Class D License) as a condition of employment.

  • Strong Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical skills willingness to learn

  • Ability to work toward obtaining an ASOPE Power Plant Op Eng 3rd Class license
