Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent and five years related experience. ASCP Certified.

 

 Job Description:  

To provide supervision of histology technicians and instruction of students in the science of histology technique including tissue structure.

 

Job Duties:

  • Hires and trains personnel in methods of histologic technique, including frozen sections, paraffin and plastic-embedded material, special staining, immunoperoxidase preparations, and supervises their work.

  • Schedules and establishes work hours for staff.

  • Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.

  • Directs repair and maintenance of equipment.

  • Controls custodial operations.

  • Develops new laboratory procedures and revises old ones upon consultation with the Office of the Chairman, Department of Pathology, or designee.

  • Instructs medical students and resident staff on histologic techniques.

  • Gives students general assistance, counseling, and guidance.

  • Directs preparation and maintenance of teaching slides for general and special postgraduate work.

  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Marginal or Periodic Functions:

  • Performs related duties as required.


Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience.
