Assistant Athletic TrainerPay Details:
The annual base salary range for this position in California is $80,000 to $100,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of player injuries. This role works closely with the medical, strength and conditioning, and coaching staff to promote optimal athlete health and performance. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced professional hockey environment. This is a full-time, exempt position located at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Responsibilities
Assist in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic player injuries
Support daily treatment sessions and administer therapeutic modalities under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and team medical staff
Collaborate with team physicians, strength staff, and other performance specialists to execute individualized care plans
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with NHL/NHLPA requirements
Provide taping, bracing, and equipment-related medical preparations for practices and games
Assist with on-ice and bench coverage during practices, home games, and road trips
Coordinate rehabilitation sessions, recovery protocols, and return-to-play progression
Prepare, maintain, and inventory all medical supplies, equipment, and therapy tools
Participate in preseason physical exams, annual testing, and league-mandated health evaluations
Communicate regularly with players, coaches, and performance staff regarding injury status and recovery timelines
Contribute to emergency action planning and respond to on-ice emergencies as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field required
Minimum 3+ years of experience working in athletic training at the professional, collegiate, or high-level junior hockey environment within the last 5 years.
Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
Current CPR/AED certification required
Strong knowledge of injury prevention, treatment techniques, rehabilitation protocols, and sports medicine technology
Able to work long, irregular hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extensive travel
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
Able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and perform physically demanding work on a daily basis
