Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Assistant Swim Team Coach will assist the Head Coach with leading age-appropriate activities for groups of swimmers at practice. Promote and incorporate the YMCA's core values and mission into all aspects of the job and community.    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:    Attend all practices and swim meets.  Give swimmers knowledge to understand and master strokes allowing for movement up through the swim team groups, and provide corrective feedback that will enhance swimmers' techniques.  Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents.  Ensure the safety of swimmers at the practice by following proper precautions and regulations.  Lead practices of the group(s) with care and excitement.  Perform any additional tasks assigned by supervisors.  Assist with the recruiting, development and maintaining volunteers and parent groups/committees.  Lead warm ups. Organize equipment   QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience:   Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Excellent human relations skills.  American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer preferred.  Prior coaching experience preferred.  Must be able to demonstrate correct swim techniques and strokes.  Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.    Certification(s) and Requirements:  CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.     Technical Skills and Knowledge:  Working knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport.  Must have knowledge of and be able to demonstrate correct swim techniques and strokes.  Have a general knowledge of anatomy, and exercise physiology, and kinesiology/ body kinematics.  Must have general understanding of child development, and physiology  Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.   Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions  Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.  All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process: completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).
