Job Description

About the team

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that automate repetitive manual work in real environments. Our robots are designed, built, and assembled in-house, which makes shop operations and assembly a critical part of the company.

Our hardware team builds low-cost six-axis robotic arms used to train and deploy generalist AI models. The shop is where parts turn into working systems.

About the role

As a Shop Technician (Assembly & Shop Operations) at Droyd, you’ll support day-to-day shop execution and assembly for our robotics hardware team. Your work will focus on assembling robotic arms, supporting engineers, keeping the shop organized, and making sure tools, parts, and equipment are where they need to be.

This is a full-time, on-site role in San Francisco, CA. This is an entry-level position designed for someone who wants to work hands-on with hardware and grow in a production or fabrication environment.

In this role, you’ll

Assembly and build support

  • Assist with assembly of robotic arms and mechanical subassemblies

  • Support fastener installation, bracket mounting, cable routing assistance, and basic fit checks

  • Assemble shop infrastructure such as benches, shelving, carts, storage racks, and simple fixtures

  • Help engineers with part prep tasks including deburring, sanding, cleaning, labeling, packaging, and kitting

Shop tools and general fabrication

  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively

  • Operate common shop equipment such as drill presses, saws, sanders, and deburring tools

  • Keep workspaces clean, organized, and safe

Machine and equipment support

  • Assist with routine shop and machine upkeep including cleaning, lubrication schedules, and consumables

  • Help with setup and post-processing for in-house fabrication equipment as directed

  • Support equipment installs, moves, and service visits with senior staff

Inventory, receiving, and logistics

  • Receive, unpack, label, and store incoming parts and supplies

  • Maintain organized inventory for hardware, consumables, prototype parts, and materials

  • Support kitting and staging of parts for builds and experiments

  • Track deliveries and coordinate basic logistics with carriers and vendors

We’re looking for someone who

  • Is comfortable using basic hand and power tools and assembling mechanical components

  • Is organized, detail-oriented, and takes pride in clean, accurate work

  • Is dependable, proactive, and notices what needs doing

  • Can lift and move typical shop items and work on their feet when needed

  • Is early in their career and excited to work hands-on with hardware

Nice to have

  • Experience with 3D printing or basic post-processing

  • Exposure to CNC machining environments or machine care

  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as Onshape for viewing or measuring parts

  • Prior experience in a prototyping lab, robotics shop, warehouse, or hardware startup
