Job Description

Position Overview

The Esports Technician Student Worker will support the daily operations of the esports facility, including technical setup, maintenance of gaming equipment, and upholding the technical operations of the esports facility. This role is designed for students with a strong interest in engineering, technology, and who want hands-on experience in an technical role on campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for gaming PCs, consoles, peripherals, and audio/visual equipment.

  • Assist in setting up and troubleshooting for practices, events, and tournaments.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the esports facility, including hardware and cables.

  • Work with the Esports Facility Lead to maintain operational excellence of the esports arena.

  • Support staff with inventory tracking of games, controllers, and other equipment.

  • Help oversee student and guest use of the facility, ensuring policies are followed.

  • Contribute to the setup and breakdown of events, including live streams and broadcasts.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Grand Canyon University with a current GPA above 2.0.

  • Strong interest in BOTH hardware and software engineering.

  • Advanced technical knowledge of PCs, consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch), and gaming peripherals.

  • Ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues quickly and effectively.

  • Ability to handle long term technical projects related to PC hardware or software.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for events.

Equipment:

  • Proficient in Microsoft suit
  • Highly proficient in PC hardware knowledge and technical operations
  • Highly proficient in PC software knowledge and technical operations
  • Nice to have; Game console hardware management skills

Work Schedule

  • Part-time, typically [10–20] hours per week.

  • Schedule may vary based on events, practices, and tournaments.

Experience/Education:
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay rate: Minimum Wage

Expected End Date: June 30, 2027
