PURPOSE Assists Outside Sales team in selling building products and services to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, store, showroom, or customer's place of business by performing the following duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other sources
Regularly travels throughout assigned territory with outside Sales Representative to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders or talks with customers on sales floor or by phone
Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes salable features
Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained
Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules
Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts
Tracks stock levels
Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database
Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries
Attends trade shows

MINIMUM
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related selling experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Prior building materials industry experience preferred
COMPETENCIES Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and develop alternative solutions as needed
Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations and responds promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback to improve service, and respond to requests for service and assistance
Ability to focus on solving conflict, listen to others without interrupting, and remain open to others' ideas and tries new things
Ability to succeed in a sales environment; Strives to meet and exceed sales goals; Understands customer needs; Handles objections well
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to succeed in a team environment
Knowledge and understanding of market and competition Ability to apply strategic thinking - analyze market and competition, identify external threats and opportunities, and adapt strategy to changing conditions

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Knowledge of order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software
