The International University of Science & Technology in Kuwait (IUK) is a newly established private university in Kuwait, with a new campus located in the heart of Kuwait near the Avenues Mall. Fully accredited by the Private Universities Council (PUC), the University offers a wide range of academic programs in Engineering, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences. In addition to the academic programs, the IUK has established the University Foundation Program (UFP) that offers English and Math foundation programs. The IUK is looking for dynamic full-time instructors who are passionate about teaching, contributing to developing a vibrant and successful learning environment with students.
Position Summary
The primary role of the Lab Instructor at the International University of Science and Technology in Kuwait is to support student’s learning experience. For specific assigned courses, the Lab Instructor is responsible for individual tutoring, giving general tutorial sessions, reviewing presentations, marking assignments, and assisting in departmental tasks as assigned by the department’s head or by the Dean. This position involves assignments covering 40 hours a week from Sunday to Thursday. Occasional proctoring duties may be required on Saturdays.
Responsibilities
- Assist the faculty with their teaching duties, including preparation of course materials.
- Give occasional review/tutorial sessions.
- Prepare and routinely maintain classroom materials/resources/displays, assist students in their use, clear afterwards and display students work.
- Encourage student interaction and engagement with faculty led activities.
- Be aware of student problems and achievements and report to faculty as appropriate.
- Contribute to the overall mission of the department, the college and the university.
- Help in proctoring examinations within the college or the university.
- Prepare weekly reports on the number of students tutored.
- Provide feedback to the faculty on student academic weaknesses.
- Be available for students who need assistance on the courses.
- Assist in departmental tasks (preparing course materials, grading homework, participating in various departmental activities as assigned by the dean, e.g., seminars, social events, student activities, etc.; installing educational software in the teaching labs).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field is required.
Experience
- Prior experience as a teaching assistant or tutor in civil or architectural engineering is advantageous.
- Strong academic background in civil and architectural engineering fundamentals.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of civil and architectural engineering principles (e.g., structures, construction materials, design fundamentals).
- Familiarity with engineering and design software is preferred.
- Ability to read, interpret, and assist with engineering drawings and design documents.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and equipment related to civil or architectural engineering.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
