Primary Objectives of Position:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of mechanical operations while serving as a working manager actively engaged in hands-on mechanical repair and maintenance
- Lead planning, prioritization, and assignment of work across the shop to maximize uptime and productivity
- Support and advance Allied Cooperative’s mission operational goals, and service standards
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex diagnostics and repairs
- Ensure full compliance with cooperative policies and all applicable federal, state, and DOT regulations
- Maintain operational flexibility to support all departments while balancing workload, staffing, and shop capacity
- Build and sustain a high-performance team culture through leadership, accountability, and mentorship
Responsibilities of the Position:
- Direct and supervise daily shop operations while personally performing mechanical diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance as a working manager
- Actively participate in field and shop repairs, including complex troubleshooting and equipment service
- Lead scheduling, task assignment, prioritization, and workflow management
- Mentor, train, and develop mechanics through hands-on leadership and technical guidance
- Coordinate cross-functionally with operations, location managers, and leadership to optimize equipment availability
- Oversee maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of all fleet vehicles and equipment, including advanced systems
- Establish and enforce standards for service documentation, time tracking, and parts usage accountability
- Manage shop organization, cleanliness, safety compliance, and operational readiness
- Oversee parts inventory forecasting, control, and procurement coordination
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, safety, and service quality
- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are executed and sustained
- Maintain a culture of teamwork and professionalism
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive mechanical experience, including heavy equipment and fleet maintenance
- Demonstrated supervisory or shop leadership experience
- Strong working knowledge of DOT guidelines, safety standards, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently and perform physical job functions as required
- Experience working on vehicles and equipment of all sizes and complexities
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage workflow, and resolve operational challenges
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making
