
Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor – Department of Computer Science
Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to begin August 2026. Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will also be considered.
The JMU CS department is a vibrant and supportive community with 33 full-time faculty members teaching in the Computer Science and Information Technology programs. The Computer Science program has approximately 700 undergraduate majors and 60 minors, as well as an online M.S. Degree in Cybersecurity with approximately 60 students. The IT program has approximately 250 majors. We are dedicated to supporting a culture that balances excellence in teaching, small class sizes, and opportunities for faculty and student research. The department sponsors many active clubs and organizations including Women in Technology, Robotics, Cyber Defense, and a student ACM chapter. We have an outstanding undergraduate Teaching Assistant program that helps novice students feel welcomed and supported regardless of their prior experience.
Our students are actively involved outside the university as well, taking part in ACM SIGSCE, regional and national cyber defense competitions, programming competitions, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, and the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing. The Department is an active member of the NCWIT Academic Alliance and one of the original Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
