The Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of veterinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major veterinary educational, medical, and research center. Today, we are one of the largest schools of veterinary medicine in the United States, training nearly 600 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students each year. We support collaboration and teamwork that turns today's discoveries into proactive solutions for animals, humans, and the environment. The Technician I assists in conducting experiments and technical procedures. Performs some laboratory research activities.  Makes and records observations and measurements.

What you need to know

Salary: $15.85 - $19.50/hour and will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.   

Location/Schedule: College station, TX/Full-Time

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

  • Assists in conducting experiments and technical procedures. Performs some laboratory research activities.

  • Reviews literature relating to possible procedures and experiments. Modifies procedures to suit the research need.

  • Assists with planning and may supervise technical operations.

  • Assists personnel involved in a series of controlled environment or analysis experiments.

  • Assists in making chemical and physical analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and tests, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation.

Data Entry

  • Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.

  • Makes and records observations and measurements.
