Description
The Curriculum Area of Sir Gar 6 delivers full time programmes in AS and A levels, Level 3 and BTEC qualifications. The successful candidate may be required to deliver a small number of Chemistry units on our Access to Higher Education programmes
The majority of our AS/A2 students also study the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales on which the person appointed will join an established team in delivering as well as being a personal tutor to either an AS or A2 tutor group.
An important proportion of our students come from our partner schools and close links have been developed through a variety of activities. This enables the Year 11 pupils to make informed curricular choices and it eases the transition for them when they come to college. You will be expected to help develop and foster these links.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of programmes of study leading to qualifications within AS / A Level Chemistry / Access to Healthcare, BTEC Applied Science to day and/or evening classes;
- Lead and develop the established Medical Field programme in partnership with our colleagues in Swansea University;
- Teach on Level 3 ASBW classes within the Sir Gar 6 curriculum area;
- Be a personal tutor;
- Contribute to the development of commercial courses and projects
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
- Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
- GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
- Relevant teaching experience
- A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
- Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
- Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
- A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
- Awareness of key performance indicators
- Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
- Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
- Sound understanding of Digital Literacy
- Willingness to drive a college minibus
- Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable
