Athletic Trainer - Full Time - Kellogg Community College Athletics & Battle Creek Battle Jacks - $7500 Sign On/Retention BonusThe Certified Athletic Trainer II (AT-II) delivers comprehensive athletic training services across five core practice domains: injury prevention; recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries; rehabilitation and reconditioning; healthcare administration; and professional development. As an integral member of the healthcare team, the AT-II works under the direction of a supervising ATC, a licensed physician, and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, athletic directors, coaches, and parents.
This position may function in a community-based focus assignment. The AT-II is responsible for maintaining a high level of professional expertise and ongoing professional growth while providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide athletic training services for Kellogg Community College (part-time)
- Serve as athletic trainer for the Battle Creek Battle Jacks
Secondary Responsibilities
- Support the high school athletic training network and community-based events as scheduling permits and when no conflicts exist with primary responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including triage and physician extender duties
- Perform injury evaluations and assessments, obtain patient medical history, and document the history of present illness
- Fit patients with crutches, braces, and other assistive devices
- Coordinate patient services, including self-care instruction and development of home exercise and rehabilitation programs
- Educate patients, families, and the community on injury prevention, treatment, and recovery
- For office-based assignments: apply casts and serve as a medical scribe for physicians
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to support optimal patient outcomes
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) approved program.
Master’s Degree in Athletic preferred
Training or related curriculum.
Must successfully complete specific competencies that an incumbent Certified Athletic Trainer must be able to demonstrate through competency skills validation as part of the training process.
3-5 years’ experience as a certified athletic trainer preferred
BLS certification is required
Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in good standing for the State of Michigan is required within 90 days of hire
• Ability to work with patients, families, physicians, co-workers and other others
• Proficiency in EMR and/or computer skills
• Competent with all customary athletic training skills
• Knowledge of common orthopedic conditions/surgeries
• Excellent communication skills- written and oral
Work which rarely produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue, i.e., less than 20 percent of the work time.
Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
General Duties for community-based positions:
• As required provides duties consistent with the certified athletic trainer scope of practice to include, but not limited to injury prevention, injury recognition, injury evaluation and referral, emergency care, rehabilitation and reconditioning, athletic training administration / athlete continuum of care documentation and professional development.
• Routinely tracks outcomes and reports information to network manager.
• Develop, plan and implement community education programming centered around sports medicine and health and wellness.
• Involvement in department and interdepartmental meetings and committees.
• Collaborates with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals within the sports medicine setting to coordinate athlete and patient care.
• Communicates regularly with coaches, parents and administrators to coordinate student athlete injury care.
• Participates in the development and implementation of goals and tactics designed to grow the sports medicine program.
• Provide education to patients and family.
• Develop continued care/strengthening programs.
• Present in community on medical conditions/injury prevention.
• Complete the New Hire Athletic Trainer Expectations Check List within 90 days.
Additional Duties for community based Certified Athletic Trainer II:
• Responsible for direct athletic training medical coverage at events scheduled through participating partners.
• Daily travel during the academic year to network high schools to provide athletic training services including, but not limited to, injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, progression back to athletic participation and referral.
• Performs duties and responsibilities specific to Bronson Athletic Trainers departments including but not limited to participation in community events.
• May be assigned to a specific team/athletic organization as the designated athletic trainer with full responsibilities as the team/organization ATC, or as the liaison to interface with the organization and facilitate in-office patient appointments and consultations.
