Job Description

Deputy Continuing Airworthiness Manager

Department: CAMO

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Gamston Airport, Retford

Reporting To: Jon Maris

Description

The DEA DCAM & King Air Airworthiness Engineer will act as the operational lead for the DEA UK CAMO department, directly supporting the Group’s Continuing Airworthiness Manager (CAM). This role is tasked with leading and developing the UK CAMO department and its supporting functions to maximise the efficiency of personnel supporting continuing airworthiness (CAw) activities.

The post holder will be directly responsible for the day-to-day management of G-reg (UK CAA) and 2-reg (Guernsey) aircraft, with dedicated support from a Diamond Airworthiness Engineer and CAMO support staff. While this role holds direct operational responsibility for the G-reg and 2-reg fleet activities, the CAM remains the accountable person for the overall CAMO approval and regulatory compliance.

Alongside the delivery of BAU CAMO activities on behalf of the CAM, a critical focus of this role will be driving Aircraft Maintenance optimisation for the King Air-type fleet. The objective is to ensure the fleet is "doing the right things" (optimising maintenance profiles and strategic fleet effectiveness) to complement the DEA Part 145, whose focus is "doing things right" (execution and compliance).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the DEA UK CAMO department, coordinating workflows and maximising the efficiency of the team.
  • Act as the primary UK focal point for CAw activities, ensuring seamless communication and alignment with the CAM as they oversee UK and EU activity.
  • Foster a proactive culture of compliance, safety, and continuous improvement across all supporting departments.
  • Drive Maintenance Programme optimisation of King Air-type aircraft to maximise fleet availability, reduce operational downtime, and align schedules with DEA’s operational requirements.
  • Assess non-mandatory modifications, inspections, and Service Letters/Bulletins from the TCH/DAH, making high-level strategic recommendations/decisions on their application to deliver maximum fleet value.
  • Trend-monitor reported aircraft defects on the King Air fleet, collaborating with DEA’s Part 145 and Mission System teams to implement robust engineering solutions.
  • Hold day-to-day operational responsibility for the continuing airworthiness management of G-Reg and 2-Reg assets, executing activities in strict alignment with the Form 4 holder/accountable CAM.
  • Ensure all personnel work in accordance with applicable UK CAA (G-Reg), Bailiwick of Guernsey (2-Reg), and other relevant registry procedures.
  • Ensure the strict accomplishment of Airworthiness Directives (ADs), operational directives, and immediate safety measures mandated by relevant aviation authorities.
  • Oversee the management of physical and digital aircraft maintenance records to ensure total completeness, accuracy, and audit readiness.
  • Establish and manage continuing airworthiness and written maintenance contracts in cooperation with owners, operators, and Part 145 providers.
  • Liaise closely with the Part 145 team to plan maintenance inputs, establishing a clear line between CAMO strategy and Part 145 execution.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure swift, efficient resolution to fleet grounding events.
  • Respond authoritatively to findings and observations raised by internal and external auditors, escalating critical compliance items to the accountable CAM.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience in a leadership capacity within an engineering environment
  • Experience working within a highly regulated CAM environment is essential (e.g. UK CAA, EASA, or Military CAMO / MAA framework).
  • Deep technical knowledge or familiarity with complex aircraft with a strong aptitude for driving maintenance programme development /optimisation.
  • A focus on continuous improvement that incrementally grows the capacity of the department as a whole by improving competence, tools, processes and techniques.
  • Proficient with airworthiness tracking software, with the ability to use data and AI tools to analyse defect trends and improve maintenance schedules
  • Direct experience working within a civil Part-CAMO environment.
  • Extensive practical experience executing tasks within civil registries, specifically G-reg and/or 2-reg.
  • Technical knowledge or familiarity with King Air-type aircraft (or similar twin-turboprop platforms).
  • Ability to meet the regulatory requirements of M.A.707 / CAMO.A.310 to act as an Airworthiness Review Certificate (ARC) Signatory (or possess the verifiable experience to achieve this status rapidly).
  • Team Leader: Proven capability to motivate, structure, and maximise the output of supporting technical roles.
  • Strategic Engineer: Ability to look beyond basic compliance to optimise maintenance schedules and fleet workflows ("doing the right things").
  • Analytical Problem Solver: Strong focus on troubleshooting, trend analysis, and root-cause resolution for aircraft defects.
  • Effective Communicator: Strong stakeholder management skills to interface effectively between flight ops, OEMs, Part 145s, and remote, accountable management.
