
IDB Epidemiology Internship
Job Description
The Infectious Disease Bureau and Center for Public Health Science and Innovation seeks an Intern with experience in 2 or more of the following disease surveillance systems, MAVEN, MIIS, and NSSP, to enhance the Infectious Disease Bureau's readiness and monitor emerging infectious disease threats. The Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response Intern will support surveillance, outbreak investigation, and data analysis, with the goal of strengthening the Boston Public Health Commission's infrastructure against pandemics. Responsibilities include developing technical reports, conducting literature reviews, and creating data visualizations to support information sharing across multiple sectors including state and local government, and informing public health interventions. This role requires strong analytical skills, experience with R, and enrollment in a PhD program in epidemiology.
Key Responsibilities:
. Epidemiological Analysis: Analyze, clean, and organize surveillance data, using statistical software (R) to monitor disease trends and identify risks.
Interpret findings and brief leadership about key findings and emerging priorities.
. Outbreak Investigation Support: Assist in investigations of zoonotic, vector-borne, vaccine-preventable and emerging infectious diseases.
. Technical Writing & Reporting: Develop reports for the Infectious Disease Bureau's Medical Director, BPHC's Executive Office, City officials and
State partners.
