PURPOSE Operates complex component saws to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made
Operate component saw with computer controlled touch screen
Adjusts saw for required cuts
Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls
Observes automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls
Coordinates multiple activities associated with saw operations including picking, staging, stacking and loading
Advises supervisor of dull saw blades
Other duties may be assigned

Education and/or Experience Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Language Skills Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
Ability to print and speak simple sentences
Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions
Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
Other Skills and Abilities Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber
