Job Description Summary
The Farm Field Mechanic plays a crucial role in repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining farm equipment with a high level of autonomy. They collaborate with equipment operators to address malfunctions and take ownership of the repair process in the field. This position demands a high level of expertise in diagnosing and repairing tractors and heavy machinery.
Job Description
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and rebuilds farm equipment and other equipment used in field operations.
- Effectively handles multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizes tasks.
- Communicates with field supervisor and maintenance shop regarding downtime and parts needed.
- Steps in to provide direction when field supervisor is unavailable. Reports any unsafe behavior or injuries to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Be prepared to respond to equipment breakdowns and malfunctions promptly.
- Work with a GPS system to make necessary adjustments and ensure precise navigation and operation of farm equipment.
- Maintains accurate equipment records.
- Collaborate with the team and lead by example, sharing knowledge and skills to promote a positive working environment.
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Actively participate and comply with Company safety policies, practices, and procedures.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred)
- Valid Driver’s License and driving record that meets Lamb Weston Driving Standards required (must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Requirement, MVR, check)
Skills and Experience:
- 2 years of maintenance experience on farm equipment required, 3+ years preferred.
- Welding and fabrication skills that include experience doing field repairs.
- Hands on experience with repairing electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Strong verbal and communication skills needed.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Physical Environment/Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
- Exposed to an outdoor environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature, in all-weather conditions.
- Exposure to outdoor farming environments for up to 14+ hours per work day to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies
- Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements as well as other maneuvers required for job actions and procedures.
- Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
- Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
