Job Description

Job Title: Mechanic II
Department: Manufacturing/Operations

Summary:
Perform routine preventive maintenance and complex repairs on sewing machines. Ensure that sewing machines are always in working order and that a parts inventory is maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Skills to repair and set up the following sewing machines: Single needle, Double-needle, Zigzag, Overlock/Safety Stitch, Coverstitch, Bartack, Flat Seamer, Eyelet, and Buttonholing machines (Pass Goodwill Practical Test and Written Test).
• Basic knowledge of Belt Loop, Programmable, Embroidery, Crease, Pressing, Fusing, and Automatic Cutting Machines. Saurer and Gerber machine experience is a plus.
• Solve any electrical problems in the machines. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, components, electrical functions, and maintenance.
• Ability to program machines to the sewing requirements and understanding of the machine manuals and functions
• Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Move sewing machines when required.
• Clean the sewing equipment.
• Change and monitor the oil levels and filters 
• Lubricate/Grease the parts of the machines when required.
• Repair the machine’s lamps and thread stands. Adjust electrical cables and air hoses
• Connect and disconnect the sewing machines. Change electrical installations, including motors, switches, and plugs
• Turn on/off compressors, boilers, and crease/fusing machines.
• Monitor air leaks from production lines
• Ability to change needles and identify defective parts, including sewing presser feet, needle guards, eyes protectors, needle plates, trimmers/cutters, and more complex parts
• Maintain order and clean the mechanic workshop.
• Maintain 95% or better attendance
• All other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
• A High School diploma or equivalent is required. 
• Constant updates on industrial machinery are also required. 
• Experience with single-needle lockstitch, single-needle chain stitch, bar-tack, buttonhole, felling, and irons is also required.
• At least ten (5) years of experience as a sewing room mechanic; experience in all types of sewing room machinery. 
• Experience with single & multi-needle lockstitch & chain stitch, bar-tack, buttonhole, felling & irons.
Language Skills:
Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively. Creole and/or Spanish are a plus.

Work Environment:
Should be prepared to work in a noisy manufacturing area with heavy traffic and floor vibrations.
